Our mission at Help America's Education is to give young graduates opportunities to work on film sets to further their education with hands-on experience and jump start their career. These grads need your support. Pledge your donation now!

At the beginning of their career, Steven Spielberg directed 5 short films, Martin Scorsese directed 4 short films, Roger Deakins was the cinematographer of 7 short films and short documentaries, Emmanuel Lubezki was the cinematographer of 4 short films, and many more. Short films are a great way to be hands-on in learning the craft of film making.

“I think it’s a mistake for young filmmakers to just buy digital equipment and shoot a feature. Make short films first, make your mistakes and learn from them.”

Writer/Director/Producer Jason Reitman (Juno) directed six short films at the start of his career.

“Go out and make something that reflects your interests, your taste, and your ideas. No one will pay you to make something until you have a few things you can show that you’ve directed. I got my start by making short films on my own.”

Director Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion) wrote and directed a short film in 2017 even after directing Tom Cruise in Oblivion.

Graduates have few opportunities to work on feature films, where competition is fierce. Oftentimes, this causes them to work in other areas than their majors. This is why we stepped up to the plate to offer them a way to help transition from school to the film industry.  We partner with Lantern Entertainment, a production company committed to hiring and helping as many young graduates as possible. By helping our graduates, we are helping our community.

“Common Ground” is a  family-friendly "road" film packed with action and humor. The crew is composed of professionals and young graduates working alongside each other. This project is perfect to acquire hands-on experience under the leadership of a production company, meaning that the crew will, among other things, stay in the project’s vision and genre, stay within the budget, and wrap production on time.

Where HAE's heart is.

Your financial support will give graduates the professional experience they need to succeed, because for us, at HAE , that's what really matters.
